VooDoo
A less than satisfied welfare recipient has constructed a VooDoo doll resembling the appearance of certain welfare worker. He holds it under water for extended periods of time. 2 July 2015 Salvation Army
Free Saturdays 5:00pm to midnight 277 Pirie Street, Adelaide Coffee, vegetable and pumpkin soup, tea and Milo was served promptly at 5:00pm. Tall Rod, 70, joined my table. He was a successful businessman before switching to Baptist preaching and is currently based with the Salvation Army. His eyes are young, but I think he is slightly deaf. The meal was bangers and mash with desert being a custard concoction. The Ghost Who Walks took one look at it and hoofed it to the Mary Magdalene Centre for the lamb stew. The Free Room offered bread, tea, poppy seeds, iced tea, banana flavoured long life milk, salad dressing, Flavour Enhanced rice crackers, biscuits, two-minute noodles. Most had a use-by date of late 2014, but the milk was only two weeks over the date. The tea bags were excellent. Also, quite decent used clothing, which is always popular. Father Chrismas won’t take any food high in sugar. He talks as if he’s crazy, but his survival instinct is healthy. He liberated six litres of milk and four boxes of WheatBix at that morning’s Salvo Brunch. Captain Laurel preached tenderheartedness in the chapel and said that since Jesus or God had forgiven us we should forgive other people when they act like assholes. (She didn’t actually use that word.) Her religious ideology is healthy, and even logical if one accepts the premise that a conscious God exists. She said we should clothe ourselves in love. Old Grandma was in a happy frame of mind. She reminded a Meths user to keep the clothing rack tidy. “Don’t forget to fold the clothing, sweetie,” she said. Those who donate their lives to helping others do just that: there is rarely acknowledgement for their efforts. Three men had trouble finding the ping pong table. They looked in two rooms before realising it was two metres away. One room has shelves of brightly coloured blankets and shelves of aged iced tea. Patrick the aspiring Catholic Priest arrived after the meal. His face was bathed in a yellow illumination. Emma and two other women crowded up to him. He could become insane, corrupt, immoral or a religious seer of great importance to humanity. The 30-year-old R.A.A.F. retiree and his mother served coffee. An older man later in the evening said he’d been in a black-op mission to Vietnam after the war ended. Eight of his fellow soldiers were killed, but he survived despite suffering a neck wound. A friend of Jason Luther Curtis made a brief appearance. Generally, Jason’s friends avoid the Salvation Army. Portugese Joe was acting a little strangely, which is normal. Jelena spread her child-like happiness wherever she went in the room. Later in the evening, Jo Aitch, Natalie the nurse and an Army man went searching for people sleeping outside, taking blankets and other stuff. Natalie works for a living as a nurse, but does the Saturday night stuff without pay. When she returned from their two-hour stint her face was glowing. Both women looked psychically clean. The Drug Addict injected a drug into his foot and began actingonly mildly crazier than he normally acts. One Army worker who had been indoors al evening said he’d like to give the “c**t a beating”. The Drug Addict earlier had been talking to the “Meth Head”. The Drug Addict told the card players, “Sorry, I let you down.” A man with a small dog wasn’t allowed to take it into the Rest Area, so he slept on the back verandah. The 10:00pm pizzas were better than usual though the Spaniard still complained while his hand bounced over the table of its own accord. The coffee was excellent and the takeaway bread smelt fresh, so different from the rancid rubbish the St Vincent de Paul centre gave away in 1987. At midnight, Guy said everyone could stay until morning, but if you left the building you couldn’t come back in. Missing last Saturday were Citizen-in-Distress, Norm with the swollen legs who was sleeping in the railway station, Mortgage Man, Cactus Jack (Bluey), Demis Roussos, Terry the anger gambler and his girlfriend, Tom who went to Tasmania, Eric, Shouting Kelvin, Mark, Des the Volunteer, Kasey Welch, Irma, Andre, Lauren, Bob the QuizzMaster, Jason (in the slammer charged with murder), Grinder (not in jail), Piano Player Wayne, The Vitamin Derelict, The Man from Peterborough and The Suicidal Gambler, Krusher Karl (still in the slammer). 2 July 2015 Home
